Assistive Technology

The Office of Assistive Communication and Information Technology is available to maximize the student's ability to effectively use computer technologies.

The office offers:

  1. adaptive peripherals, including optical character recognition/speech output systems, Braille translators and embossers, keyboards, and switches
  2. specialized adaptive software
  3. supportive instruction
  4. assistive devices for the hearing impaired

The coordinator of Assistive Communication and Information Technology is also available to evaluate the student's technology needs relative to specific course requirements, as well as long-term personal and vocational goals.

A written evaluation is prepared by the coordinator which includes the student's abilities and needs, recommendations for appropriate equipment, modifications or adaptations, and training to enhance computer literacy.

The coordinator will also assist CITES, the Housing Division and departmental computer labs both proactively and reactively in identifying and implementing accessibility solutions.

Students needing technology assistance should contact the coordinator at the earliest possible date to initiate the process of planning and implementing technology accommodations.
