Notetaker Services

DRES will assist students in securing notetaking services.

Students for whom notetaking services have been approved should pick up "Notetaker Information Packets" for each class in which such services are required.

The packets may be obtained in Room 111 of DRES, 1207 S. Oak St., Champaign, IL 61820.

Each packet includes a letter to the professor identifying the student as having a disability which warrants the provision of notetaking support services.

The letter notes three alternatives for the provision of this accommodation:

  1. The professor may provide the student with a copy of his/her personal lecture notes
  2. A teaching assistant may be assigned responsibility for taking notes in the class for the student
  3. Peer notetakers may be recruited from the class

Note: In executing the latter option, the packet includes instructions for the professor which explicitly describe how to recruit, select and prepare classmates to serve as peer notetakers.

Students for whom notetaking service has been determined to be a reasonable accommodation may:

  1. Have their class notes copied at no cost in the DRES Office of Sensory and Testing Accommodations
  2. Receive a DRES copy card to pay for the copying of class notes at sites other than DRES when it is determined that effective access to DRES copy services is not feasible
  3. Receive carbonless copy paper at no cost when the notetaking services identified in both 1 and 2 are not feasible
